Ball Review: Kasco Rockets

Introduction: Kasco's packaging says that these golf balls have a "proprietary multi-layer technology... that deliver outstanding disctance, spin, and feel for the ball control today's golfers demand." In fact these are the world's first 4-piece multi-layer ball and are designed to maximize distance while also maintaining spin control. "The cover and triple-laid cores work together to assure the ball comes rocketing away from the club head at the moment of impact." This ball was designed to "provide distance regardless of how powerful your swing is."

The Good: As a fairly inexperienced player I still found that these golf balls did seem to rocket off the face of my club especially off the tee. The trajectory seemed lower than I usually hit and resulted in longer drives. On a summer trip to Cape Cod, I gave one of these balls to each of the players in my foursome to see what they thought of the ball. Everyone felt they were hitting the ball farther and played that same ball all day long (unless an errant rip caused the unfortunate loss of one of these priceless gems).

Great but are they legal? Kasco Rockets are legal and conform to R&A and USGA Rules.

The Bad: These balls are very pricey. You will find that most local golf stores don't stock these golf balls. But if you can find them the prices range from $50 to $70 per dozen. That can hurt your wallet if you still lose a lot of balls in a round.

Overall: These balls are worth a shot if you want to get greater distance off the tee without sacrificing feel. I don't know if it's the "placebo effect" but everyone I have given one of these balls like them enough to keep using it throughout the round. Since actions often speak louder than words, I still say I saw improvement when I played the Kasco Rockets.
